Presidential and Parliamentary elections in Madagascar

Presidential and parliamentary elections will be held in Madagascar next August 23 after several changes in the date due to political instability and lack of consensus among different political parties.

There are 50 official candidates to become the next president of Madagascar. However, the list of candidates may change as several candidates could abandon the race due to incompatibilities or for political reasons – among those are former First Lady Lalao Ravalomanana and President Andry Rajoelina. In the current Transitional Parliament there are 20 women parliamentarians (12.20%) out of 163.
